“GET UP!” my mum said to me. “You have athletics day and you can’t be late.” I got up and looked at the time”OH NO, it’s already 7:00 o’clock, I ran to my draws and got ready with a bunch of blue clothes because I am in Tainui.
Wednesday morning we had athletics day and it started at exactly 9:15. We lined up in our age
groups and walked to our first event, soft-ball throw. I was the 3rd person to get up and show how far I could throw. I swung my arms over and the soft-ball flew through the air like a bird flapping it’s wings. At the end of this event I didn’t come any placing but I felt like I did better than other people in my age group. The girls that came 1st, 2nd and 3rd looked very excited and to be in the top 3 and have to admit that they were really good.
3 events later it was time for the 100 meter race. Nervously walking up to the starting line I felt butterflies flying all around in my stomach. I was trying to think about doing my best and coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I just stood there like a statue and then I heard a sound, CLAP!!!!!! and the race began. After that I looked straight and tried to concentrate on the race. I saw Thora past me and then Toreka. Sprinting towards the end I could see Seni-Mino right behind me, but I had already made it past the finishing line. I came 3rd and I was very ecstatic. As it came to the 2nd race I didn’t come anything but I was happy that I tried my best.
After the race my sore ankle came back to me and I just didn’t feel like doing anything. I limped side to side hoping that I didn’t have to do any more events that involved much running. High jump was next and I wasn’t looking forward to it. I slowly jogged towards the place mat and I didn’t even get a inch past the pole. After two turns and had gotten out and sat down on the grass singing away to the music. The sun was hot and most people were so glad that athletics day was almost over.
We had a great day and I hope next year my ankle won’t be there.
