Science At Tamaki Tech
Team 5 at Pt England school walk down to Tamaki College every Monday morning. I am in science this term and there are many other groups where you can gain more experience.
This week was a disaster because it was raining little drops of rain and I felt horrible because I didn’t have a jumper and I didn’t want to get wet. I just couldn’t wait until we reached our destination. Talking to Awhina on my left hand side we power-walked across the crossing and finally we were there.
We both hastily walked to the class and lined up in an ordinary fashioned line. Our teacher, Mr Dewan made sure that we all had been wearing the correct foot-wear. He seemed very happy when the whole of the science group were wearing the right gear until he put us into groups and we all got muddled up. We had to keep changing our groups and I was getting very paranoid and tired.
After what felt like an awful catastrophe some students demonstrated how to use a Bunsen burner. Going step by step I was starting to get the hang of it. We got into our groups and started the science project which was to see what will heat up quicker, salty water or normal standard water out of the tap. At the end of the experiment it seemed that salty water had heated up first at 100 degrees celsius. My group was jumping up and down at the end.
I learnt a lot like:
1. How to use a Bunsen burner
2. How to turn on a gas tap on and off
3. That salty water heats faster than normal tap water.
I had a great time and I can’t wait to do more experiences.
